Chris Cummings Fire Call

These three beautiful horses race their fire wagon through the snowy streets to get to the scene of the blaze.  The steam pumper seen in this print made firefighting more effective by providing the first continuous supply of water to a fire.  The horses got the equipment there faster than men on foot.  However, note in this print that there are no additional firefighters in the scene.  Firefighters still had to walk to the fire until "running boards" were installed on the horse-drawn vehicles in the 1860's.
